10 midnight sun experiences in Central Troms

Enjoy the natural wonders of the Troms region while kayaking, hiking in Rokhunborri National Park or fishing for char on the seaward side of Senja.

Hiking along Nordkalottruta

Some of the most beautiful sections of the 800 kilometre-long (497 miles) Nordkalottruta can be found in Mid-Troms' interior. Two national parks, mountains rising 1,700 metres (5,500 feet) above sea level, gorges and canyons... This is a varied, remote region. Be your own guide or join an organised trip in Rokhunborri National Park

Fishing in Altevatn Lake

If you don't catch fish in Altevatn, you won't catch them anywhere. A nine-kilo char is the record for this great lake, close to the Swedish border. Fish by yourself, or join a wilderness camp

Cave hikes along Sagelva

The caves along the Sagelva River in Salangen may have been there through two ice ages. Join a guided tour through the caves with ropes and headlamps.

Kayaking around Senja

Paddle between the 98 islands in the Bergsfjord on Senja, with sandy beaches, bird life and breathtaking views of mountain peaks, through calm waters offering excellent conditions. Rent a kayak or join an organised tour

Peak hike on Senja

The peaks on the seaward side of Senja offer short, steep climbs and stunning views of the dramatic ocean coast. Mountain peaks of varying height and well-marked trails await. Guided hikes are available.

Ocean fishing

In the summer, saithe visit the coast — and that makes fishing fun! Several centres offer boats for hire, with sonar and fishing equipment.

Cycling on Senja

The seaward side of Senja has a dramatic and steep coast, but as the road follows the coast, you do not need to be afraid of climbs. Take a detour out to a fishing village and marvel at the viewpoints along Senja National Tourist Route

A unique encounter with wolves

Visit the wolf enclosure at the Polar Zoo and get to know these fascinating mammals. They use their tongues to communicate, so you'll find the contact to be relatively intimate. Bring your camera - you'll get great close-ups
