What to do in Hovden

Hike one of several summits in the Hovden area, fish for trout in one of the local lakes, or go cross-country skiing on top-class tracks come winter.

Opportunities to enjoy mountain life abound in Hovden year round, whether you want a relaxing or an active holiday. Ski, hike, fish, swim - you decide.

Summer activities

In summer and autumn you may try your luck fishing in local lakes (you can catch trout here), and if you enjoy hiking, there are several mountain trails to choose from. Summit hiking from central Hovden, with a diploma for all the participants, has become a popular family activity.

On warm summer days the Hegni Recreation Area is perfect for swimming and fishing, in addition to being the starting point for several cycling and hiking trips. More summer activities   in Hovden.

Winter activities

Hovden is well known for good skiing, both alpine and cross-country. From November till May you can enjoy downhill-skiing in Hovden Ski Centre, and Hovden has more than 160 kilometres of top-class cross-country tracks. More winter activities in Hovden.

Year round activities

There is also an interesting museum at Hegni, the Hovden Museum of Iron Production, housed in a reconstructed melting facility, which shows how coal and iron were extracted in the early Middle Ages.

The Hovden Aqualand & Spa, with its constant water temperature of 30ºC, is an all-year paradise for the whole family, especially when the mountain lakes and streams are too cold for swimming.
