Cross-country skiing in Hovden

From sheltered forest tracks to open country, Hovden boasts 160 kilometres of cross-country trails that are groomed daily during the season.

The village of Hovden, which borders on the Hardangervidda mountain plateau, is a popular area for skiing. The cross-country trails here are of international standard, whether you prefer the lowlands or the mountains, short or long trips, or maybe a training session.

When

The season lasts from November to May.

Off-piste skiing

Several mountain areas surrounding Hovden are excellent for off-piste skiing. Contact the tourist office for advice on recommended places and safe skiing.

Accessibility

Almost all the cross-country trails are close to central Hovden and the various accommodations. One trail is accessible from the ski lift at the Hovden Alpine Centre.

Terrain

160 kilometres of machine-groomed trails for classic and skate skiing. 65 % of the trail network runs in high mountain terrain and 35 % in forested area.

Ski hire

Hovden Alpine Centre and Rabatten Ski Rental both have cross-country equipment for rent. Typical prices for adults (from 160 cm) or children are 180NOK/120NOK (for a day), 240 NOK/160NOK (weekend) and 360 NOK/270NOK (week).

Ski after dark

Hovden has a 10-kilometre network of floodlit trails. The lights are on until 11 pm every night.

Hovden has a wide selection of accommodation alternatives. Discover the hospitality and friendly atmosphere, and feel at home at Hovden Resort, Hovden Fjellstoge (DNT), Hovden Høyfjellsenter og Hyttepark, or Hovdehytta Apartments.

Free shuttle bus, DNT mountain lodge, three unstaffed DNT cabins: Berdalsbu, Tjørnbrotbu and Sloaros. LAGG Ski School offers off-piste guiding, instruction and guided summit tours on request. The Hovden Alpine Center offers downhill skiing for every skill level, with 32 slopes of varying difficulty.
