Risør

Risør is one of the best preserved timber towns in Northern Europe, the houses are painted white and the gardens are full of flowers.

The city of Risør is a small city with white painted wodden houses, and the city is beeing well preserverd. The town is built in the Empire ans Swiss style and was built nearly 150 years ago, and Risør´s baroque church is from 1647.

Accomodation

In Risør you can stay in the boutique hotel ”Det lille hotel” where all suites are different designed to capture the atmosphere of the regions seafaring heritage. Risør Hotel is a hotel by the shoreline where you can wake up whith a view over the harbour. Risør Resort, Moen Camping offers cabins, apartments, swimmingpool, beach and a lot of activities.

Active holidays in Risør

Risør is perfect for active holidays and offer a great range of activities from sea kayaking, nordic walking, cycling, canooing and sailing. The city has a lot of small galleries, restaurants and cafes.  

Stangholmen Fyr (lighthouse)

Stangholmen Lighthouse is worth a visit, the pleace has its own restaurant, recreation area which are suitable for swimming and fishing. During the summer concerts will be arranged. Boat to the lighthouse will leave ever half hour from the city. 

Festivals in Risør

During the year Risør arranges a lot of  festivals, and one of the best is Trebåtfestivalen (Wooden Boat Festival) the first weekend of August. This festival is an annual festival for classic wooden boats, the festival was established in 1983 and is a true cultural experience where the world´s most beautiful boats visit. The festival contains program for all ages, with concerts, performances and historical flashbacks, and of course regattas for wooden boats of all classes and sizes. 

Another festival is Risør Chamber Music Festival. The festival is home to several well-known artists. Risør Chamber Music Festival is held in late June every year.

Risør Aquarium

Risør Aquarium is Southern Norway´s only saltwater aquarium, and houses 100 species, 500 fish and marine animals. Fish are fed daily at 14.
