What to do in Setesdal

Take a boat trip on the Byglandsfjord, or splash around with the kids at Hovden Aqualand. Climbing and rafting are other fun things to do in Setesdal.

In Evje you may choose from a wide range of activities: bowling, go-karting, rafting, cycling and climbing. Further to the north you will find high mountains with endless plateaus surrounding lush valleys, and excellent opportunities for hiking, swimming, trout fishing or climbing.

Klatreskogen, Evje

The Climbing Forest is situated next to the Mineral Park, in a natural pine forest on the banks of the river Otra. The Grand Park has 35 different activities, all of which are built into the trees at a height between four and eight metres. There are four zip wires, each approximately 200 metres long, and all cross the bay. The view from the tree tops is stunning - the location is without doubt an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Family rafting, Evje/Bygland

Troll Aktiv offers several rafting trips daily  in summer. No previous experience is necessary. The Otra River is graded 3 - 4, an ideal grade for beginners and for experienced rafters. The grade varies with the time of year and water levels. From late June until September the water temperature can reach 20 degrees centigrade. The trips start with a safety briefing and practice on flat water covering all the essential safety points. There is always a guide in each raft, and an instructor accompanies the rafts in a kayak. The trip starts on a gentle rapid increasing in difficulty as the falls get steeper.

Steamship Bjoren, Bygland

Embark on a voyage with the old wood-fired steamship Bjoren from 1866. Every Sunday in July, there is a two-hour round trip, starting in Byglandsfjord and Bygland, respectively. Contact Revsnes Hotel  for information about departure times. In addition to the regular round trips, special arrangements are available for groups of up to 55 persons.

Gloppefoss Waterfall, Valle

Gloppefoss is one of the highest waterfalls in the Setesdal Valley, with a great flow of water through the whole summer season, even in periods with little rain. A marked path runs from the E9 through Veiåjuvet canyon to Gloppefoss. The scenery is impressive, with high mountains on both sides. The hike to Gloppefoss takes about two hours. Under normal weather conditions, it is a great experience, also for families with children. The road is easy to find and follows the valley and the river.

Hiking, Hovden

Hovden offers a varied hiking terrain. Choose between the distinctive peak Hovdenuten with its magnificent views, or the smooth, sloping rocks along the stream Børtemannsbekken. Take the chairlift to the summit of Nos, or explore the mountains by hiking to one of the cabins of the Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT) in the vicinity of Hovden. Some of the trails are accessible for prams and wheelchairs, and several trips may be combined with fishing.

Hovden Aqualand, Hovden

Hovden Badeland (Aqualand) and Spa is an eldorado for the whole family, where children can splash out in the indoor or warm outdoor pool and parents relax in the Jacuzzi, sunbeds or lounge chairs. There is a baby pool, as well as water slides and a flowing river. Catering areas can be found by the pool and in the entrance hall area. New and stylish wellness facilities include a Finnish sauna, sanarium, steam room and foot bath. Various skin and wellness treatments can be booked in advance.
