Getting to Sørlandet and around

Sørlandet is easy to reach, located at the southernmost tip of the Norwegian mainland. You can reach the area by car, bus, aeroplane, train or ferry.

If you want to arrive quickly by car, the most natural alternative is to follow the E18. You may also choose to follow the old coastal roads, if you have more time.

The table beneath shows the total number of kilometres between destinations, whether you are coming from Oslo or Stavanger. You can see by the table that it is not far between cities or towns in Sørlandet: From Flekkefjord to Risør is just a little over 200 kilometres.

Sørlandet has its own airport, Kristiansand Airport Kjevik, located about 10 kilometres from Kristiansand. You can arrive at Kjevik by aeroplane from major Norway cities.  SAS and Norwegian have arrivals from Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger and Kristiansund. There are direct international arrivals from Copenhagen and Amsterdam. There are five different car rental firms based at Kristiansand Airport Kjevik.
 
There are also numerous daily buses departing from Stavanger and Oslo heading for Sørlandet. The bus routes follow the coastline, where coastal towns are natural places to stop. There are also express buses heading toward Setesdalen.

There is also a train following the coast, with many arrivals and numerous train stations to stop at along the way. For booking and timetables, please contact the Norwegian State Railways (NSB). 

The coastal train route to Sørlandet starts at Hirtshals in Denmark and ends in Kristiansand. The Superspeed train only takes 3 hours and 30 minutes. This route has two trains each day.
