The Telemark Canal

When the Telemark Canal was completed in 1892 the rest of Europe called it "the eighth wonder of the world". Some 500 men worked for five years, blasting their way through the mountains. With a total of 18 locks chambers, the route was cleared from Skien to the old Norwegian village of Dalen. See the Telemark Canal 360 SkyCam.

Dalen

You can sail the waterway from the coast to the foot of the mountainous Hardangervidda in the middle of Telemark. The Telemark Canal winds its way between the mountains and at the end of the fjord you find Dalen – lying in the valley between high cliffs and surrounded by wonderful nature.
