King crab excursion to Honningsvåg and the North Cape

Combine your business trip to Alta with an exciting king crab safari in Honningsvåg by the iconic North Cape – great for summer in Northern Norway.

Honningsvåg and the North Cape are within easy reach of Alta, only a couple of hours away. For an unforgettable Arctic experience, go on an excursion and join a king crab safari. The suggestion below includes an overnight stay and a visit to the North Cape. King crab excursions are perfect for summer and trips are usually available from May to September.

King crab safari

Participants will set off on a deep-sea raft to Sarnesfjorden, stopping to check what is inside the traps way down below. Most likely, there will be a catch of crabs from three to seven kilograms, although the king crab can measure up to two metres between its claws and weigh as much as 10 kilos.

The trip continues to a lavvu camp where you will go ashore and prepare the catch for dinner. Guests will then stay overnight in the charming fishing village of Honningsvåg.

A visit to the North Cape

The well-known, 307 metre high North Cape cliff with the familiar globe monument is the nearest accessible location to Europe's northernmost point.

The North Cape Hall is tourist centre for visitors with a range of fun and interesting facilities. Guests can enjoy a panorama film portraying the North Cape throughout the year, see museum exhibitions, visit St. Johannes Chapel or browse the gift and souvenir shop. There is also a post office, a restaurant, a café and a champagne bar.
