The last day of the trip in Norway could not have ended any better. Spectacular northern lights waved goodbye to our explorers.

Paul Steele shares his thoughts about this exciting day:

Well, all good things must come to an end, but this was not without a great day to equal all others. We had rested overnight in the far north town of Alta and were ready for a fun packed day. First up: snow scooter safari at Gargia Fjellstue Mountain Lodge.

Scooter safari

Suited up and on the trail we revved up. Cold cold air blasting the face, all negated by speed, turns and views as we wound upwards. As we reached a high plateau the wind was whipping up the snow and blowing it across the land in the sunlight, it was surreal.

Hotel of snow and ice

After the excitement of the afternoon's motoring we made our way to Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel. The first one in Norway and was quite simply massive.

Again, photos do not quite give it the feeling you have of being in there but I can honestly say to see it in its glory with the lighting and ice sculptures is a memory that will stay with me. Of course we just 'had' to sample the blue vodka in ice glasses whilst there.

The northern lights came out to play

It was at this evening that we got the shout that outside the northern lights were dancing in the sky. The last night, and perfect perfect timing, time to run outside.

Throughout this whole trip to Norway we have seen and done so many things and each has been an amazing experience. Even here right now up in the far North in Alta there was one thing we could not arrange or book. To see the northern lights.

Well, all things came together for us perfectly, we were having a tour round the Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel and having dinner when suddenly - there they were. Up above us and before us the green glow formed. We had our light show.

Words can't describe being there watching them live, and pictures only tell half the story. I was speechless and have now physically seen and felt one of my lifelong dreams.
