Play golf in Norway

Golf is a popular sport in Norway, and new golf courses are popping up many places throughout the country.

From Robert Jones-designed 18-hole courses to six-hole courses built by volunteers – Norway’s 185 golf courses offer something for every player, whether you are a low handicap golfer or a tourist looking for an unforgettable outdoor experience. Either way, Norway has a golf course to suit you.

Most golf courses can be found in the Oslo area and near the cities of Bergen, Stavanger and Trondheim, although there are also some in smaller areas. Most visiting golfers, however, head to the Lofoten Islands for a round of golf under the midnight sun, a truly unique experience. There are also occasional golf competitions on ice or snow.

If you want to play golf in Norway, keep in mind that most Norwegian golf courses are products of the environment and the Nordic climate. On the south-west coast you can normally play all year round, but for most courses the season starts in early May and ends some time in October/November depending on when the frost sets in.

There are also places for indoor training, and a number of mini-golf courses.

“Pay and play” is not widespread in Norway. Most courses are run by golf clubs, and it is recommended to bring valid membership ID of your own golf club. Greenfees varies from NOK 250-500 on most courses.

Norway's best golf courses 2012

Bogstad and Miklagard golf courses are the finest in Norway, according to the Rolex Golf Guide 2012. The two golf courses were allocated 85 out of 100 possible points each. Moss & Rygge and Bjaavann golf courses got 80 points each.
