Travel like Harry Potter

Parts of the film "Harry Potter and the Halfblood Prince" have been filmed on the scenic Rauma Line in Fjord Norway.

Harry Potter Connection

Visitors to Norway can now travel in the footsteps of Harry Potter. Parts of the new movie "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" have been filmed on the train line Raumabanen, between Oslo and the Norwegian fjord region. The scene from Bjorli is the only one filmed outside of Great Britain.

Spectacular scenery

A trip on the Rauma Line gives you a unique opportunity to experience at close hand some of the most spectacular scenery Norway has to offer. In only one hour, the train will take you from beautiful fjords to the wild mountains. Once onboard, all you need to do is sit back, gaze through the large windows and enjoy your journey through a landscape of wild magnificence full of contrasts.

The train will run especially slowly through the most spectacular scenery, and make photo stops at the famous Kylling Bridge and at Trollveggen,  Europe’s highest perpendicular mountain wall.

The beautiful, emerald-green River Rauma will follow you, right outside the train window, for much of your trip. The river’s character is constantly shifting – one moment flowing gently between small beaches of white sand before transforming into a wild torrent, cascading down rapids at breakneck speed. On the train you will hear a commentary in Norwegian, English and German, and receive a brochure describing the highlights of your journey.

The sightseeing trains on the Rauma Line run from 30 May through 30 August. Choose between two scenic rides; the one hour-ride from Åndalsnes to Bjorli, or a 1 hour and 40 minutes-ride from Åndalsnes to Dombås.

Other outstanding train trips

The best known line is the Bergen Railway that crosses the high mountain range between Oslo and Bergen. The trains run across a windswept and treeless mountain plateau, awesome in its bleak solitude. The line turned 100 years in 2009.

The famous Flåm Railway starts from the junction at Myrdal on the Bergen Railway.

Another great tourist attraction is the Northern Line, from Trondheim to Bodø. It is NSB's longest main line and one of the few railways in the world to cross the Artic Circle. This railway stretch is very scenic, with view of the glacier Svartisen, rivers and fjords.
