Hallingstuene

Frode Aga is a well-known chef in Norway and his restaurant Hallingstuene is located in the centre of Geilo. The restaurant is furnished in a rustic style, with a fireplace and timber walls with Norwegian rose painting.

The restaurant specialises in game dishes such as grouse, capercaillie, elk and red deer. Hallingstuene also has a cocktail bar and a well-stocked wine cellar.

Sofias Café & Bar

Sofias Café & Bar is Bardøla Høyfjellshotell's creative playground. Here you can buy freshly baked bread and cakes, or you can have a dish of tasty tapas at a reasonable price.

Brasserie at Dr. Holms Hotel

Brasserie is a French restaurant offering an exciting à la carte menu. Local and traditional French food are served in a modern way. A fireplace and an open kitchen invite to both formal and informal occasions.

Norwegian Mountain Food Centre

There is only one Norwegian Mountain Food Centre, and it is situated in Geilo. Here you can taste and buy delicious mountain food from all over Norway.

If you would like to try traditional food in a less informal setting, many farms in the area also sell local products on site. Good addresses include Hakkesetstølen, at Kikut, six kilometres from the centre of Geilo (+47 32 09 09 20, open from the end of June to September and in the Norwegian Autumn holiday), which serves traditional Halling fare, including porridge, cured meats and farm-baked goods; Hamarsbøenstølen, in Havsdalen, four kilometres from the centre of Geilo (+47 41 30 52 73/+47 32 08 81 12, open from July to August), which serves Havsdal sour cream and various locally produced milk products; and Geilojordet, in the heart of Geilo (open in the summer), where you can also taste traditional food.
