Fly fishing holiday in Hemsedal

Hemsedal is a well known fly fishing destination, located in the mountains midway between Oslo and Bergen, and a one hour drive from the Sognefjord.

Hemsedal offers two of Norway’s best trout rivers, Hemsila and Grøndøla. In Hemsila you can expect to catch trout of 500 grams to two kilograms. Summer in Hemsedal is an angler's paradise, with long, fast-flowing rivers and numerous mountain lakes. The rivers and lakes are crystal clear and hold wild brown trout in their prime.

Fishing

From 30 June to 20 September, Hemsedal offers unique fishing opportunities.

The most common fish species caught in Hemsedal are perch and trout, and in the summer of 2008 a record trout of almost 7 kilograms was caught in the Mørkedøla river, which runs into Hemsila.

Hemsedal suits both fly fishing professional anglers and beginners, who can take advantage of the various fly-fishing courses on offer.

To fish in Hemsedal you need a fishing permit. It is valid for four rivers and 18 mountain lakes, and detailed information about prices and conditions can be found online.
