Getting to Jotunheimen and around

Jotunheimen is centrally located in the heart of Norway between Oslo, Bergen and Trondheim, and is easily reached by public transport.

By bus and train

Express buses from Oslo, Bergen and Trondheim stop in the area several times a day. The nearest train station is Otta on the Dovre railway line. From Otta there are local buses to most places in Jotunheimen. For more information and booking, please contact Nordfjordekspressen, GudbrandsdalekspressenNor-Way Bussekspress and the Norwegian State Railways (NSB).

There are local bus connections to many places in the mountains in the main season (from the end of June until mid-August). There are two daily bus connections via Otta-Vågå-Lom-Sogndal. Timetables for the local buses are available online at rute.oppland.org.

By car

There are many options. From the south, drive on the E6 from Oslo/Lillehammer or on fv. 51 from Fagernes. From Bergen, take the E16 via Lærdal, the ferry from Fodnes to Mannheller and fv. 55 from Sogndal to Lom. From Stryn, head eastwards on fv. 15 and from Geiranger take fv. 63 and fv. 15.

In the summer, there is boat transport available on Lake Gjende and Lake Bygdin.
