Cross-country skiing

If you like cross-country skiing outside tracks, the mountain area of Trollheimen has a varied landscape which is easily accessible for skiers.

If you prefer groomed ski tracks, many kilometres of prepared tracks await in the Surnadal and Rindal area. Stay at cosy cabins or hotels, and enjoy the almost untouched landscape.

Off-piste skiing

For the adventurous, ski expeditions are arranged on request - contact one of the local tourist information offices for further information. The Nordmøre region has some of Norway's finest mountains for off-piste skiing.

Basic Outdoor offers qualified tour guides and packages from half-day trips to longer expeditions. You can for example go on a tour that combines sea kayaking and off-piste skiing. The kayak enables you to go really off the beaten track.

Fishing

For those wanting to try their luck at fishing, it is strongly recommended to book an organised tour. Weather conditions change rapidly in winter and it is too risky to go out in small boats on your own. Fishing tours are organised on request for smaller groups. Contact one of the local tourist information offices for further information. Vågarbryggå and Smøla Havfiskesenter both organise fishing trips.

Killer whale (orca) safari

In winter, the ocean outside Kristiansund and Nordmøre is teeming with herring, the preferred food for the black and white killer whales, also known as orcas. Once you have seen the playful, beautiful whales you will remember them for life.

In Kristiansund, orca safaris are available for a short periode in winter, as six-day long trips (no day trips). Following the fishing boats and a school of herring, the wait to see the whales is exciting and fun-filled.
