Romsdal Aktiv is located in Åndalsnes, in the Romsdal Valley in Fjord Norway.
The Istra River is located a 10 minute drive from Åndalsnes. The canoe trip starts at the Trollstigen Mountain Road. Rafting, river boarding and kayak courses and tours are conducted in Istra's neighbouring river Rauma.
10 minutes in another direction you can explore a large cave, and be completely alone in this dark cavern. Head-mounted torches from instructor and participants' helmets are the only source of light to show the way.
On the one side of the valley you will see the impressive wall of the Trollveggen mountain. This incredible natural formation is North Europe's highest rock face with its own history of climbs and base jumps.
On the other side of the valley is Romsdalshorn. Running parallel to these two marvels to the rear of Trollveggen you find the Trollstigen Mountain Road. This wonderful piece of engineering is, in parts, actually carved out of the rock face, winding through 11 hair-pin bends on its way to the summit. Here one can experience the amazing scenery from the viewing platforms. This mountain road is one of Norway’s most visited nature-based attractions.
Most of the mountains in the valley reflect their enormity in the ripples of the Romsdalsfjord. About one million people visit this area every year, and are charmed by the pretty little mountain town of Åndalsnes.
