A one-hour flight from Oslo will bring you to the fishing paradise of Nordmøre and Romsdal, where you will find a large variety of fish species, combined with a spectacular scenery and attractions like Atlanterhavsvegen ("the Atlantic Road") and the Trollstigen Road.
At famous fishing destinations such as Smøla and Averøy you can hire a boat or let a skipper take you out to sea. Along the deep, blue fjords, waters are more sheltered and offer plentiful fishing.
The island municipalities of Aukra, Midsund and Sandøy are excellent starting points for sea angling trips on boats that are built for the open sea. On the landward side of the islands and in the fjords it is possible to fish from ordinary small boats. Along the whole coast there are many good spots for angling from shore with rods, line and lures.
The Atlantic Road is particularly well equipped with fishing bridges and wheelchair-accessible fishing spots. In addition to sea fishing, you should try fishing in the famous salmon and trout rivers such as Surna and Driva. The currents of the river Smøla also offer excellent sea trout fishing. You may also try fly-fishing for pollock, a great spring adventure. There are also numerous fishing lakes, both on the mainland and on the islands.
Year round, but the best is between March and the end of October.
The most common species found here are cod, halibut, pollock, saithe and haddock as well as herring, mackerel, cusk and ling. Trout and salmon can all be caught in local lakes, streams and rivers.
The region of Nordmøre and Romsdal is a suitable destination for those looking for hardcore fishing as well as people who want to fish once in a while during their holiday. There are opportunities for individuals, families or groups.
Are you dreaming of calm days by the fjord, with a small boat in the harbour you can use for fishing tours? You can find a list of holiday houses, cabins and sea houses online at visitmolde.com or visitkristiansund.com.
Some of the campsites have boats available for their guests. Fishing guides are usually available upon request. Rent a boat and let the guide come along and show you the best fishing spots. You can also let a skipper take you out to sea in a larger boat – again, a sure way to find the best fishing spots.
