Shopping in Ryfylke

Shopping in Ryfylke should be about local products such as traditional handicrafts, smoked salmon and ham from Suldal.

Ham and salmon

Ryfylke offers tasty smoked and marinated salmon, and cured Suldal ham ("Suldalsskinke"). These products are sold at local shops throughout Ryfylke.

Fruit and berries

The climate along the fjords of Ryfylke is ideal for growing fruit and berries. Juicy strawberries arrive in June; cherries and blackberries tempt visitors in August, while September brings a wonderful harvest of Norwegian plums, pears and apples to the shops.

Traditional handicrafts

During the fairs Ryfylke Days at Sand and Strandadagene in Jørpeland, you will find both edible and lasting things to purchase. Wood carvings, traditional woven rugs and tapestries, hand-made glass, jewellery, wicker chairs ("Jærstoler") and wooden boats are all worth taking a closer look at.

In the Ryfylke town of Jørpeland one can have a look at different galleries and exhibitions as well as purchasing items such as local produce, toys and sports gear.
