Hiking possibilities

Senja has a lot of varied hiking trails. Hiking across Senja through the Ånderdalen National Park takes three-four days with camping. There are also 20 marked trails to different mountain peaks, from easy to expert routes. The island offers varied landscape with more than 500-year-old pine trees, lakes with plenty of fish, streams and a rich wildlife. On the west side of Kvaløya about 60 kilometres outside of Tromsø you will find several marked trails.

Southeast of Senja is the island Andørja, the most mountain rich island community in Norway, which also offers exciting hiking paths. 

If you would like to hike in real wilderness Øvre Dividal National Park offers marked trails that go from cabin to cabin. You need to get a key from DNT to the cabins.

Getting there

To get to the region fly into Bardufoss or Tromsø from Oslo. Public transport is by fast boat from Tromsø to Finnsnes and bus from there to Senja. You can also drive and take the ferry from Brennsholmen on Kvaløya to Botnhamn on Senja.
