It does not matter which road you take to get to Farsund, once you get nearer to the town, you will start to smile as you see the mountains, fjords, coastline and harbour that is Farsund. This small town has a lot of history and friendly locals.
The Farsund municipality, with its 9500 inhabitants, is West-Agder’s largest agricultural municipality. The municipality has three towns, Vanse, Vestbygda and old Farsund city with exciting offers both activities and trade.
The nature varies greatly from the open landscape, mountains and sheltered valleys with dense forest. Farsund has ten kilometres of long sandy beaches perfect for a walk, wind surfing, kite surfing and surfboard riding. Due to the abundance of Lista's rich flora and fauna, many of the beaches are protected.
The cultural landscape is unique with its high contrast and tracks dating back to the Neolithic age. The municipality is one of the richest in terms of historical relics and also has many well prepared footpaths. There is fishing opportunities in many areas in both in-land and sea.
The centre of Farsund has a large harbour with new and old boats docked alongside the old traditional types of houses, narrow alleys and winding streets. It has small town charm and character. In the summer months there are always people dotted around the cafes and restaurants enjoying the scenery.
In the city centre, there is a lookout point with panoramic views over Farsund called Varbak. It is a short walk from the tourist office or it is possible to drive a car there. The views have mountains to the left, the guest harbour and city in the front and the vast coastline to the right. A picnic table and custom designed chair are located there so visitors can enjoy a nice picnic.
The rest of the municipality offers Southern Norway’s longest and most varied beaches and there is something for everyone with nature at its best. Farsund's American Festival is on the last weekened in June in a little town outside Farsund called Vanse. Be sure to pack some American outfits!
