Alpine skiing and snowboarding
With its 32 pistes, nine lifts and a total of 33 kilometres of groomed descent, Hovden Alpine Centre offers a variety of slopes for every skill level.
The terrain park is the place for those who want to explore their acrobatic skills. The 1,300-metre Bukkerittet (the Buckride) terrain park has a wide selection of rails and jumps for snowboarders and skiers. It is suitable for beginners as well as for more advanced skiers.
For the children
The children's area at Hovden Alpine Centre, Tusseland, has all the facilities needed for young guests. A magic carpet (conveyor belt) for beginners and a ski tow bring the children to the top of the slopes. Try the ski carousel, junior snowmobiles and toboggan run. The children's area has its own kiosk and a small lounge. Childcare is also available.
Ski passes
Lift passes can be purchased online on the Hovden Alpine Centre's website (only in Norwegian).
Ski hire
The Ski Shop at the Hovden Alpine Centre has a wide selection of alpine skis, snowboards, telemark, cross-country and freeride skis for hire.
Rabatten Skiutleie, situated 900 metres from the Hovden Alpine Centre, has alpine and cross-country skis, snowboards as well as children's pulks for hire.
Ski school
Would you like to learn the basics of skiing or just give your technique a finishing touch? You may get instruction in cross-country as well as alpine skiing or snowboarding. The LAGG Ski School located at Hovden Alpine Centre offers instruction for individuals and groups.
Cross-country skiing
Hovden boasts a total of 170 kilometres groomed trails of varying difficulty, of which 165 kilometres are groomed for both classic and skate skiing. The trails run through varied terrain up to an altitude of 1,250 metres. We recommend an evening night skiing in our lighted ski trail, where the lights are on until 11 pm. See the map of the prepared ski trails.
Off-piste skiing
Off-piste freeride and powder skiing start at the Hovden Alpine Centre facilities. The Ski Shop at the centre offers tailored trips adapted to every skill level.
Winter without skis
You don’t have to be an avid skier to enjoy Hovden. At the Hovden Badeland & Spa (Aqualand), the water holds to 30°C year round. Featuring an outdoor pool, water slides and Jacuzzis, these facilities offer a wide range of activities for the whole family. There is a separate spa area for those aged 18 and above, and a skin care salon located in the same building.
There is also a 400-metre floodlit ice rink – skates are for hire at Hovden Badeland, adjacent to the rink. Kicksled hire is available at the tourist information in the centre of Hovden and snowshoe hire at Hovden Sport.
The Hovden Museum of Iron Production (free entrance) is also worth a visit.
Where to stay
At Hovden, we offer all kinds of accommodation. Choose between cabins, hotels, apartments and a mountain lodge, and enjoy a good night's sleep after a day packed with activities.
Free ski bus service between the accommodation providers and the Hovden Ski Centre.
Dining and nightlife
After a long day on the slopes, we recommend a meal at the Hovden Alpine Lodge (pages only in Norwegian) or after-ski at the Offpiste Bar. Or you may decide to rest for a couple of hours before enjoying your dinner at the Hovdehytta Bistro or the Hovden Høyfjellshotell. Excellent lunchtime offers are also available. Hovden Fjellstoge has a wide selection of local, traditional food. In the centre of Hovden there are several cafés and restaurants.
