Kristiansand has a rich and varied selection of indoor and outdoor cafés, restaurants and pubs. In summer the city's bars are open long into the night, and packed with people. Local fish, wild game, plants and berries are the source for tasty, high quality food served in the cafés and restaurants.
The fish market/quayside
For a wide variety of culinary temptations, you should try the restaurant area by the fish market/quayside. It is well worth a visit whether you are looking for a light snack or a three-course dinner.
Norwegian delicacies such as smoked salmon, freshly caught mackerel, fish cakes or filet of moose are offered at the counters of the indoor fish market. Do like the locals, buy a bag of fresh shrimps or a basket of locally grown strawberries, and enjoy them sitting at the quayside.
The modern restaurant Bølgen og Moi tempt guests with a fantastic view from the quayside and a delicious meal. Here one of the most well-known artists in Norway, Kjell Nupen, has decorated the walls and place-mats.
Måltid specialises in fresh, local food. The ingredients here come from small independent producers solidly rooted in their local community.
Tilstede offers a relaxed atmosphere and real food made from local, organic ingredients.
Gastropuben Kick Malt og Mat serves more than 30 different beers on tap. Most of them british, with some Norwegian breweries represented, and some international, but they also serve beers from micro breweries.
Gastropub means public house that specializes in serving high-quality food. Kick has been rated on Tripadvisor and in 2013 the pub got the ”Certificate of Excellence Winner”.
Finally Kristiansand has got their own brewery. A small micro brewery called Christianssand Brygghus makes their own recipes and their brew master ofte fill the tanks with new and exciting beers. Christianssand Brygghus serves generous portions on the plate.
