The top three dishes served in Sirdal are: reindeer roast, mutton/lamb roast and fried trout. These dishes are often accompanied with wild berries and mushrooms that are growing locally, either as a part of the main course, or as dessert.
International restaurants
Sirdal Høyfjellshotell at Fidjeland serves light dishes, lunch and à la carte in their newly renovated hotel restaurant. Lamb, reindeer and trout always feature on the menu, in addition to popular international dishes. The hotel offers a cosy function room that is set up to look like a barn 100 years ago. A great place for celebrations and family gatherings. In winter, you may visit the hotel's informal après-ski bar "the Garage", ski boots and ski clothing is the dress code here. For business travellers the hotel's VIP champagne lounge is the perfect gathering place for smaller groups.
Sinnes Arena is a new fancy panorama restaurant in the centre of Sinnes, from where you have a magnificent view of the Sinnesvatnet Lake. In winter you are close to both the ski slopes and cross-country trails, hence a popular place for après ski. Sinnes Arena serves light dishes, dinner and desserts, as well as snacks. The "Sinnesburger" is a big hit, served with homemade brown bread, fries and salad. Take-away food is available, and larger parties may order buffets or tapas in addition to the dishes on the à la carte menu.
Byrkjedalstunet in Byrkjedal is among the most popular restaurants in Rogaland. For more than a decade the restaurant has been among the top 10 most visited tourist attractions in the county. Not only is the food at Byrkjedalstunet great, the atmosphere is very welcoming too. Anna's meatballs, fried trout, lapper (American-style pancakes) and lefse (a soft potato-based flat bread usually served with sugar and cinnamon) are among the hits. In the backyard of the restaurant you find a cosy hotel complex and some animals for the kids to pet.
Cafés
Haugen Kiosk and Café in Haugen is a welcoming snack bar serving traditional food like komle (dumplings) and light dishes like hamburger and fries. At the kiosk you can buy snacks like crisps and sweets.
Tonstad Bakery is a cosy bakery shop with a coffee lounge in the centre of Tonstad. The bakery offers a wide selection of fresh bread and pastries, and is often referred to as "Norway's best bakery".
Event/function rooms
The function room Gloppehallen/Ovalen at Byrkjedalstunet (see "International restaurants" above) is the most spectacular banquet venue in the region. It is drilled out in rock, and the combination of professional lighting and candles makes this a popular venue for weddings and larger events.
Sirdal Huskyfarm in Ousdal offers a unique atmosphere for celebrations and family gatherings. Local ingredients are used in most of the dishes served.
Tonstadli Ferie, Kurs og Misjonssenter in Tonstad offers modern function rooms. They are locally known for their tasting catering menu. Please note that this is an alcohol-free venue. See Tonstadli.no.
Sirdal Tradisjonsmat is a small company run by Norway's nation biathlon team's own chef, Torbjørg Haugen, who serves excellent meals based on traditional recipes from Sirdal. In between her busy schedule, Torbjørg can be booked to cook for groups at any venue, including your own cabin if you so wish.
