Welcome to Helnessund - a vibrant fishing village in Steigen with long traditions in fishing and seafood. Our location gives the fishermen easy access to the open sea and to the fjords when the weather or the fishing conditions suggests these waters. Helnessund is the perfect location for your fishing vacation, and there is always a fish in season.

In august 2009 Helnessund got a word record, when the largest halibut ever to be caught by fishing pole was landed by one of our guests. The fish weighed 212 kilos, and had to be towed back to the docks before it could be lifted on shore by crane. We held the record until 2011, and are eager to regain the title.

In Helnessund you can either rent a boat and fishing equipment to go fishing on your own, or you can book on of the local fishermen to take you to their favorite shallows in their fisherman’s wessel. Either way, you are in for a great fishing experience - with almost guaranteed big catch.

We can offer newly renovated rooms and apartments right by the docks, with private bathrooms, private- or access to shared kitchen and dining rooms and free wi-fi. Our accommodation is based on self-cooking, and the grocery store is right by. There is also a café & pub open in the season.

Helnessund is also the perfect location for other nature-based experiences, like hiking, kayaking, free-diving and sea-eagle spotting. See our website for more information.

It is easy to travel to Helnessund with a direct express boat connection from Bodø city and airport (one hour). You can also travel by road.
