A fantastic nature experience for the whole family, where you walk through a gentle valley from Bødal summer pasture farm up onto the glacier. On the way to the glacier, you cross a river and streams in virtually untouched nature, and a guide tells you about the landscape and history of the area. This walk is suitable for people in average physical shape from age eight upwards.

All necessary glacier equipment is included. Walkers must bring warm clothes and a packed lunch for a day outdoors. The organisers can supply footwear on request.

The meeting place is at Sande Camping in Lodalen – an approx. 10 to 15-minute drive from Loen up the Lodalen valley – where the walk starts every day at 10.00. Here you meet a guide who provides information about the walk. You then drive to the car park in Bødal in your own vehicles and from there you walk with the guide to the glacier. In some instances, our guides can pick up guests at the Joker shop in Loen, right beside Hotel Alexandra (this must be arranged in advance). The glacier guiding company can organise transport for bigger groups.

Glacier walks are organised every day from 1 June to 30 September, and the trip takes five-six hours in all, with about three hours on the glacier. The routes on the glacier can vary from day to day, depending on how the glacier’s formation changes. In the event of extreme changes in the weather, the walk can be cancelled at short notice, but this is not common. There are 10 to 12 participants per guide/rope team.

There are many accommodation options in Loen and the Lodalen valley – from first-class hotels to holiday houses and simple camping chalets.
