Summer adventures in Hemsedal

Yee-haw!

Perfectly groomed ski slopes. Bare mountains. Snow parks. Cross-country ski trails.

Get ready for an exhilarating elevation drop of 830 metres.

And for the ultimate thrill-seekers? Off-piste skiing will really get your adrenaline pumping.

With 20 square kilometres of off-piste terrain, we highly recommend that you bring a local guide as an escort.

In the mountains halfway between Oslo and Bergen lies Hemsedal, a winter paradise that is named Norway’s best ski resort on a regular basis.

Hemsedal Ski Centre is one of the largest ski resorts in Norway, with more than 50 slopes and 20 lifts, as well as ski cross arenas and snow parks fit for all levels.

If you want some more sunshine, head on over to Solheisen Ski Resort, located on the sunny side of the Grøndalen valley.

There are several slopes designated for children, and Valle the snowman provides daily entertainment. At Valle’s Ski School kids can learn to become safe and competent skiers.

And when they crave variety? Let them sledge down the hills on a snow racer!

But this alpine mountain village in Eastern Norway has a lot more to offer than just ski slopes.

Ride across frozen lakes and open mountain plains behind a team of excited huskies …

… or put your stamina to the test with some spectacular ski touring.

Cross-country skiers have 140 kilometres of trails to choose from.

Follow the groomed tracks through forests and valleys …

… or glide through 110 kilometres of peaceful mountain trails.

Bring a packed lunch or drop by the cafés at Ulsåkstølen or Flævassytta for some delicious Norwegian waffles.

There are several options for relaxation as well. Either outside in the sun …

… or in one of the four resorts, where you can pamper your skin and muscles and stimulate your taste buds.

How about a dip in the pool at Fyrí Resort, which holds a temperature of 36 degrees?

Followed by some wild dancing on the tables at Stavkroa, famously known as Norway’s best place for après-ski.

If you prefer live music, stop by Skistua or Hollvin.

Hemsedal is certified as a Sustainable Destination. Although this does not mean that the destination is completely sustainable, it does mean that it has made a commitment to work systematically to reduce the negative effects of tourism.

Can you resist the siren call of the Scandinavians alps?
