Lovatnet Lake

  •  /  km From You
Overview

Lodal valley and Kjenndal Glacier should not be missed. Beautiful scenery and a dramatic history make Lodal valley a place quite out of the ordinary. Twice in this centrury, huge blocks of stone fell from the sides of Mt. Ramnefjell into the Lovatn lake below. The resulting tidal waves decimated the hamlets of Nesdal and Bødal and 135 lives were lost. The years 1905 and 1936 will forever remind people of Inner Nordfjord of the Lodal catastrophes. Read more about the catastrophes here.

Why is the Lovatn lake so green?
The Lovatn lake is green because it contain clay particles and rock dust, carved out by glaciers and swept along by rivers. The glaciers are continuously crushing up rocks and stones. When the glacial water reaches the lakes and fjords, it looks green, especially when the sun shines.

Lovatnet Lake is a good fishing water. Free fishing.
