Length: ca. 0,5 km one way
Duration: ca. 15 min up
Hight difference: 100 meters
Suitable for children: very high
Parking: Parking signposted from road 33, alt. at Etna Camping or Lunde Bridge (combined bike and walking tour)
The Norwegian Flag beneath the viewpoint Madslangudberget was painted in 1897 and is the oldest “Rock Flag” in Valdres. Drive on road 33 until ca. 5 km west of Høljarast and exit towards the signed parking lot for Madslangrudberget (ca. 1 km). It’s a short, but partly steep walk to the viewpoint that can be accomplished even by the youngest children as soon as they can walk.
For a longer round trip you can start at Etna familiecamping. Walk anti clockwise and start to the right. There are three parallel routes at the start, from along the river side to up beneath road 33. They all meet before the path crosses road 33 and continues steep uphill. Here it joins the gravel road from the parking lot and continues as described above. After the viewpoint, keep to the south for about 1 kilometer. Then the path bends down the
hillside, crosses road 33 and ends up at Etna Camping again. This walk takes about 1,5 hrs total.
If you parked at Lunde Bridge, you can cycle along the south bank of the river to Etna familiecamping, leave your bike and walk the whole round trip from there. This is a nice and varied trip, and you can take a swim in the river.
