The sun has come after a long polar night; the day is getting longer and longer…
This tour takes place in the central part of Spitsbergen Island, in Nordenskjøld Land Nature Reserve, which offers you all possible types of the landscape: valleys, mountains, glaciers and fjords. We will travel through this picturesque area with all our equipment packed in individual sledges, with stops to overnight and cook in tents. The exact itinerary will be adjusted to the weather conditions and general capabilities of the participants.
The guide is a famous Czech polar explorer; VICAARs partner Miroslav Jakes whose polar career began as far ago as in 1984 when he crossed Greenland. Since 1993 he has been guiding Czech and international expeditions to the North Pole and on Svalbard. Total distance, we will cover this time, is about 120 km.
Air temperatures ranges between 0ºC and
-25ºC. This tour would be a good training for a forthcoming expedition to the North Pole.
