This is one the National Tourist Roads in Norway. The over 100 years old road winds over the mountain between Stryn and Skjåk. For many years the gravel road was the only connection between east and west. To re-create the authentic feeling of driving on the road as it was in the old days the Norwegian Public Roads Administration has re-erected the row of guard stones.
Along the tourist road you will also find the summer ski centre, picnic areas and information boards which inform about the landscape, the geology and the natural surroundings.
The road is closed in winter. It opens in June, and remains open until the first snowfall. In 2014 the road closes 17th of October.
The tourist information offices have brochures on The Old Strynefjell Mountain Road.
The longest permitted length of vehicles is 12,40 m.
