Spitsbergen Lodge, 2 day Winter Safari We are kitted out and given an introduction in how to ride a snowmobile before setting off towards the lodge, located appr. 30 km from Longyearbyen.
There are only a few miles of public roads in Longyearbyen, so snowmobiles are the most common modes of transport used on the white planes of Svalbard's wilderness. By means of snowmobile you can move across glaciers and mountains, through narrow valleys and ice covered fjords in a relatively short space of time. A blue and white landscape, a cracked glacier - the Arctic winter landscape is indescribably beautiful! The Spitsbergen Lodge Winter Safari is a 2 or 3 days long snowmobile trip with accommodation at our Spitsbergen Expedition Lodge. The Expeditionion Lodge has capacity for maximum 10 guests, and is a sheltered and comfortable base for exploring the Nordenskiöld Land area. The lodge has a perfect location in the pass between the valleys Adventdalen and Eskerdalen, and has a great view towards the Drønnbre-massif and Skolten, the highest mountain on Nordenskiöld Land (1.128 m.a.s.l.). The lodge has good facilities with a living room, kitchen, 3 bedrooms and toilet. Electricity supplies by aggregate. At this location we're in the middle of the snowmobile area. We may plan routes towards the east coast of Spitsbergen, northwards to Pyramiden, Fredheim and the beautiful glaciers Tuna- and Von Postbreen. We can also explore the exciting mountain massif between the two fjords Adventfjorden and Sassenfjorden. The lodge is also a perfect base for ski trips in the Drønnbre-massif.
