Veien Kulturminnepark – Take a trip back in time and see the fantastic longhouse in Hønefoss. Visit the museum’s many changing exhibitions, and the amazing permanent Iron Age exhibition.
Veien Cultural Heritage Park is centrally situated in the district of Ringerike, just north of Tyrifjorden and Hønefoss. It is one of the biggest burial grounds from the Early Iron Age in eastern Norway. Today the burial ground consists of 107 grave mounds. Traces from the past tell a much bigger story. In the fields, south of the burial ground, excavations have uncovered several flat graves, cooking pits, fireplaces and four longhouses. One of the longhouses is reconstructed the way we believe houses looked like back in Early Iron Age. The burial ground is dated to Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age (ca 900 B.C. to 550 A.C). In June 2009 a new museum opened housingan exciting exhibition which shows a woman’s life in three different time periods, the Iron Age, the 18th century and today.
