Plan your trip to Vrådal

Here you'll find some of the best climates for swimming in the summer ...

... and the perfect amount of snow for skiing in the winter.

Choose between both easy hiking routes for families and other, more challenging options.

Nestled among mountains, lakes and forests lies beautiful Vrådal – a fun and action-packed destination for families, friends and couples! Swim in the idyllic lake until late summer and ski down its excellent slopes during winter.

The village of Vrådal is located at the junction between the two lakes, Vråvatn and Nisser, where the last Ice Age carved out a unique island landscape. Situated a 3 hour drive from Oslo and even closer to the beautiful southern coast, Vrådal is the perfect destination for a day trip or a weekend getaway.

Try HUBRiding, a concept developed in Vrådal, where accommodation is combined with routes through spectacular nature by classic car, motorcycle, or bicycle. Experience the famous Telemark culture by visiting the West Telemark Museum, the Norwegian Ski Museum in Morgedal, and the 13th century Heddal stave church, to name a few. The municipal center Kviteseid is home to charming shops and cafés, and is a starting point for boat cruises on the historic Telemark Canal.

A good climate and shallow beaches make for a great swimming season in Vrådal. Straand Sommerland is a recreational area by the beach that features a playground, outdoor restaurant, and a 12-meter-high climbing tower, and offers numerous activities including canoe, SUP, and boat rentals. This also also where the classic old ship Fram sets sail on its sightseeing cruises. The tourist information office offers motorboat rentals and you can also rent row boats, canoes, and kayaks at Vrådal Hyttegrend.

Vrådal offers plenty of nature experiences. The Venelifjell hiking area is family friendly and has activities for all ages, while the trails to the Roholtsfjell and Hegefjell mountains, both over 1,000 meters high, are more challenging. The area also has many easier trails. Remember to bring along a container, because there’s an abundance of blueberries and lingonberries you can pick in late summer and early autumn.

If you like fishing, idyllic Nisser and Vråvatn lakes are both well stocked with fish. You can buy a license from the local fishing club and get expert advice on the best fishing spots at the local sport shop.

The 9-hole golf course at Fossøy is idyllically situated by Lake Nisser. Enjoy a stroll along the culture path to see ancient settlements from the Stone Age. You can also relax with refreshments at the golf café.

The Vrådal Panorama Skisenter resort was the first in the world to get a ski lift with eight seats. The resort offers a variety of slopes, a kids area, and cross country skiing trails. Find more inspiration on Telemarks's official website.
