The trip starts in Stavanger. Take the North Sea Road, Fv510, along the Hafrsfjord where Norway was united as one kingdom in 872 AD. The monument ‘Swords in Rock’ in Møllebukta commemmorates the battle that took place here. Continue to Sola and drive to Fv509 towards Sola Airport, follow the signs to Sola Ruinkirke (church ruins) and Sola Strand Hotel. Continue southwards along Solastranden beach, following signs to Tjelta and Fv510 south to Bore, and turn off onto Fv507. Continue on Fv507 past Revtangen and the recreation centre at Orre. You can buy freshly picked vegetables, tomatoes and cucumbers along the road. Your journey takes you past Nærlandsparken.

Follow Fv44 to Varhaug.
Possible detours:
1) MingarWalker Glassblåseri.
2) Hå old vicarage, now an art gallery, is beautifully situated by the sea. On the way you pass Obrestad harbour and Obrestad lighthouse.
3) Grødalands­tunet is an ancient Jæren farmstead.
4) Jærmuseum Kvia, the regional museum and science centre with interactive exhibitions and many exiting experiments.

Get acquainted with the landscape, building traditions and culinary traditions of Jæren – Norway’s main area for food production. From Varhaug you follow Fv504 to Bue, continue on the E39 to Vikeså. Your trip continues on Fv503 to Gloppedalsura, Northern Europe’s largest rock scree. It is a 5 minute drive from here to Byrkjedalstunet farm cluster, which has a restaurant and candle shop.

Continue the trip on Fv45 thru Gilja and Dirdal to Oltedal. Continue towards Ålgård, perhaps stopping at Limagården, the village museum in Gjesdal. Then drive highway E39 in the direction of Stavanger. If you want to stretch your legs you can actually rent a railway tricycle at Figgjo station, and cycle the 6 km round trip journey to Ålgård. When you’re ready, continue northwards along E39.
