Getting married in Norway

If you would like to get married in Norway, or are planning to elope on short notice, there are certain things you must bear in mind.

Norwegian marriage requirements and regulations:

Before entering into a marriage contract in Norway, there must be a check of whether the marriage requirements are fulfilled.

This check is conducted by the National Tax Administration (Skatteetaten), which is in charge of the National Population Register.

For further information contact Skatteetaten on 800 80 000 (within Norway) or +47 22 07 70 00 (from abroad).

The time required by the tax offices may vary, but it will normally be two weeks or less if all paperwork is in order.

You can contact one of the Norwegian embassies worldwide for further details
