Alpine skiing

A traditional Norwegian mountain village with high tech ski facilities.

This authentic and quaint resort reflects a bygone age full of charm and surprises. You will be spellbound at the painted wooden houses, white clapboard church and rolling snow covered fells and frozen lakes. A real winter wonderland!

Geilo is a mountain community where people have lived yearround for generations. If you arrive in the traditional way, by train – then you will virtually step off the platform straight onto the slopes.

Accommodation is first class in Geilo – ranging from traditional log cabins with open fireplaces to apartments, b&b’s and welcoming hotels. The skiing is accessed by a modern lift system and takes place on two mountains on either side of the valley, linked by a free ski bus.

You will find wide uncrowded pistes, great for gaining confidence and a wide variety of runs through the trees leading down to the village.

Other winter activities on offer include family treasure hunts, snowmobiling, tobogganing, ice fishing and an ‘extreme safari’ that promises close-up encounters with the local wildlife – lynx, arctic fox and reindeer.

Geilo has floodlit skiing four evenings a week.

For jibbers and snowboarders, Geilolia Ski Centre is opening a new, extended terrain park with a challenging rail line, big jump, mogul run and lighting for evenings. The snowboard park at Fugleleiken has also been updated with lots of new jumps and rails.
