Getting to Jotunheimen and around

Jotunheimen is centrally located in the heart of Norway between Oslo, Bergen and Trondheim, and is easily reached by public transport.

By bus and train

Express buses from Oslo, Bergen and Trondheim stop in the area several times a day. The nearest train station is Otta on the Dovre railway line. From Otta there are local buses to most places in Jotunheimen. For more information and booking, please contact Nor-Way Bussekspress and the Norwegian State Railways (NSB).

There are local bus connections to many places in the mountains in the main season (end of June till mid-August). Two daily bus connections Otta – Vågå - Lom - Sogndal.

By car

There are lots of possibilities. From the south on E6 from Oslo/ Lillehammer or rv. 51 from Fagernes. From Bergen E16 via Lærdal, ferry from Fodnes to Mannheller and rv. 55 from Sogndal to Lom. From Stryn eastwards on rv. 15. From Geiranger on rv.63 and 15.

Some of Norway's most scenic routes lead through the area:

  • The Sognefjell Road (rv. 55)
  • The Old Strynefjell Road (rv. 258)
  • Valdresflya (rv. 51)

The Sognefjell Road and the Old Strynefjell Road  are both national tourist routes.
