Premier local food

The Røros region is acknowledged as one of the premier areas for experiencing local food in Norway with excellent raw produce and skilled local food producers. The region has specialized in ecological and short-travelled food and offers a wide range of produce - from reindeer and trout to a tasteful assortment of cheeses.

In the Røros region you can enjoy gourmet food prepared using the finest seasonal ingredients, whether you prefer meat or freshwater fish, the chef can guarantee you a culinary feast. The competence and passion for food is typical of the entire region, not only at restaurants and cafés, but also in the hotels and guesthouses you may stay.

Traditional fare

There are many centuries-old farms and summer farms ("setre") still in use in the Røros region, giving you fine opportunities to see traditional farming up close during the summer. Some of the farms are open to the public and serve traditional food and drink - tasty traditional fare will heighten your enjoyment.

The village of Vingelen is one of the few in Norway which is still active with traditional summer farming. Visitors are charmed by the picturesque landscape and buildings, as well as the traditional produce and serving of local food.

You may also visit Gjetbergsvollen a little east of the town of Røros, which is open during weekends from July to September and Easter. Gjetbergsvollen has become a popular destination for food lovers with home-made traditional food served in the old eighteenth century cow shed and in a restored barn, including main courses, desserts, coffee and cakes.
