Hotels of snow and ice

During the winter, both Alta and Kirkenes offer accommodation in hotels made of ice and snow. Sorrisniva Igloo Hotelin in Alta and Kirkenes SnowHotel are open from January to the end of April (depending on the weather). These hotels are fantastic work of art in snow and ice with a unique atmosphere.

Fishermen's cabins ("rorbuer")

Along the coast of Finnmark you will find cosy fishermen’s cabins. These cabins originally provided simple overnight accommodation for fishermen. Today they are available in all categories, from low to very high standard.

Camp sites

Finnmark has a wealth of camp sites – from low, to very large and high-standard sites which also offer an assortment of activities. At some camp sites it is also possible to empty portable toilets.

Hotels

Hotels are found in most of the larger towns and villages. Several have favourable summer prices, including holiday passes and discount schemes.

Motels, boarding houses and youth hostels can also be found in Finnmark.

Lavvu hotels

In both Karasjok and Kautokeino you can spend the night in a lavvu hotel – a traditional Sami tent. This is the ideal way to get to know the Sami people and their culture.

Mountain lodges ("fjellstuer")

On the Finnmarksvidda mountain plateau you can spend the night in a traditional mountain lodge out in the wilderness. Traditionally the monutain lodges offered low standard accommodation, but now you can also find mountain lodges with higher standards. The atmosphere at the mountain lodges will give you the peace and quiet you dream about.
