The first silversmith in Finnmark was established in 1959 in Kautokeino by Frank and Regine Juhls. They started in a small cottage in Kautokeino, but today the silver gallery has developed to be quite an architectural attraction. Juhl's Silvergallery offers traditional and exclusive modern jewellery made on the premises. International art and handicrafts are presented in a beautiful, special and unique setting.
Sami knives have been produced by the Strømeng family for five generations. These knives are a universal product in daily use among the Sami people. In Karasjok you may visit the place where this family manufactures and sells the traditional knives.
In 1989 Swiss Daniela Salathé moved all the way from the urban Central Europe to the Arctic Ocean. In the village of Berlevåg she started producing exciting utility articles and souvenirs of hand-crafted, melted and shaped glass. The colours and design of her products are inspired by the Arctic culture and nature in Finnmark, and you will find them in her studio in Berlevåg, as well as in some other handicraft shops in Finnmark.
If you are interested in ceramics, you should pay a visit to one of the world’s northernmost ceramics ateliers and candle makers. The atelier, which is situated on the island of Ingøy 50 kilometres northwest of Hammerfest, sells 300 different products inspired by the sea.
