Getting to Troms and around

Reach Troms by plane all year from Oslo, London and Murmansk, spring to autumn from Riga, and from Stockholm during summer.

By plane

Troms has three airports with direct connections with Oslo Airport Gardermoen:

  • Harstad/Narvik Airport Evenes
  • Bardufoss Airport
  • Tromsø Airport

Sørkjosen Airport in Northern Troms is a smaller airport with flights to Tromsø and various destinations in Finnmark, including Kirkenes.

By car

Three European highways pass through the county of Troms:

  • E6 goes from the north to the south and is not reliant on ferry connections
  • E10 connects Nordland, Lofoten and Southern Troms with Kiruna in Sweden
  • E8 connects Troms with Finland

The Coastal Route is an alternative south-north drive through the county. With fjords and ferries it provides a different motoring experience than E6.

Troms is also covered by a network of county and municipal roads.

  • Olderdalen – Lyngseidet
  • Svensby – Breivikeidet
  • Refsnes – Flesnes
  • Grytøy –Bjarkøy
  • Stornes – Bjarkøy

Hurtigruten (The Norwegian Coastal Voyage)

The long-established Hurtigruten calls at Harstad, Finnsnes, Tromsø and Skjervøy on both northbound and southbound voyages.

Express boats

  • Harstad – Finnsnes – Tromsø
  • Tromsø – Vikran – Tennskjær – Lysnes
  • Tromsø – Skjervøy
  • Skjervøy – Kvænangen and islands
  • Harstad – Engenes – Brøstadbotn – Salangsverket
  • Harstad – Bjarkøystedene – Senja

By bus

Veolia serves routes in Southern Troms, TIRB has routes covering virtually the entire county, while Senja Rutebil serves routes on the island of Senja. Tromsbuss provides a local bus service in the city of Tromsø and surrounding areas. Nor-Way Bussekspress has bus connections with the rest of Norway.
