Walking
You will find more than 230 walking trails in varied terrain. Choose between summit trips, nature trails or cultural trails. The mountains in Nordfjord range from heights of a few hundred metres to almost two thousand metres.
Glacier activities
The Jostedalsbreen Glacier is the biggest glacier on mainland Europe. Take a guided walk on the Bødalsbreen Glacier, and experience the intense blue colour of the ice and living formations in the glacier at close hand. You can also try a glacier safari in rafting boats on the lake in front of the Briksdalsbreen Glacier.
Fishing and hunting
Nordfjord is an eldorado for angling enthusiasts. Nordfjord is "the fjord with the seven rivers", and it has long been a favourite destination for British fishing lords. Various fishing trips by boat are available. Lakes, rivers, the fjord, or the ocean - the choice is yours.
Water activities
The ocean, roaring rivers and calm lakes are ideal for a range of activities. Choose between whitewater rafting, swimming, surfing, canoeing, kayaking and scuba diving.
Riding the Norwegian fjord horse
The Norwegian fjord horse is Nordfjord’s own breed of horse, and there are several places in Nordfjord where riding enthusiasts can enjoy beautiful scenery from the horse's back. Riding lessons, day trips and riding camps.
Cycling
You can cycle on old cart roads where there is hardly any traffic, or on roads that wind their way up the valleys. You can also join a guided mountain bike tour. Bicycle rental is available several places.
Boat trips
Various fishing and sightseeing trips are available in Nordfjord, on lakes, on the fjord and on the ocean.
Health and well-being
Two of the hotels in Nordfjord have excellent swimming facilities and offer spa treatments/Thalassotherapy. Spa means "health through water" and for centuries it has involved mineral-rich waters, hot springs and relaxation.
Golf
There are four courses in Nordfjord. Imagine lush green fairways surrounded by bubbling rivers and towering mountains.
Bouldering and climbing
Several places in Nordfjord offer climbing, either outdoors in climbing areas, bouldering on giant rocks in the Oldedalen Valley or indoors on climbing walls.
Explore the culture
Nordfjord's cultural heritage, with its long-standing folk music and arts and crafts traditions, is well preserved. The Anders Svor Museum and Nordfjord Folk Museum are among the places where you can explore the heritage. On the famous island of Selja you can listen among the ruins of the monastery to the exciting story of St. Sunniva. Or perhaps you would like to follow in the footsteps of the Vikings?
