Norway is closer to the UK than people might think - only two hours by air, and with numerous flight departures every day, it couldn't be easier to get there. Or if you have the time, make the journey part of your holiday and travel by ferry, train or car.

Fly to Norway

  • Worldwide there's Scandinavian Airlines, sometimes operated by their partner Widerøe from the UK, Sweden and Denmark

Travel to Norway by ferry

There are many ferries sailing from Denmark:

  • Color Line
  • Stena Line
  • DFDS
  • Fjord Line 
  • Smyril Line

From Germany (Kiel - the ships Color Fantasy and  Color Magic are the World’s largest cruise ship with a car deck) and Sweden (Strömstad) there's Color Line.

If you're travelling from Iceland, Scotland or the Faroe Islands try Smyril Line.  

Travel to Norway by train

An extensive rail network links Norway to the other Scandinavian countries and the rest of Europe, whereas the national trains in Norway are served by NSB.

From the European continent
There are express trains to Copenhagen. Most rail journeys from the continent are overnight, and you will find sleeping compartments on all of them. A variety of discount passes are available for train travel in Europe and Norway. Not all trains offer first-class service, but second-class is of a high standard.

From Copenhagen
There are regular train connections to Oslo from Copenhagen several times a week.

Travel to Norway by car

You are most likely to arrive by car from Sweden, but Norway also borders to Russia and Finland. Read our article about driving in Norway.
