About Norske Bygdeopplevelser Tour Operator

Norske Bygdeopplevelser is a private tour operator situated in Lillehammer, specialising in organising and selling skiing, biking and hiking tours all over Norway, but primarily in Eastern Norway. We also offer special made tours for groups, for example round tours with mountain trips and fjord cruise.

Trekking in comfort

The tours are suitable for those who enjoy mountain hiking, staying in good hotels or guest houses during the trip and have the luggage transported to the next place - all you need to carry is a small daypack. The terrain is family-friendly and tours are mostly easy day trips, but it is also possible to arrange more challenging trips. 

Rambling in Rondane National Park

Rondane was Norway's first national park. The focal point of the national park is the Rondane Massif itself.

Our day trips vary from hotel to hotel, in the forecourt of the Rondane National Park, in easy mountain countryside, with spectacular views of the Rondane Massif.

Tour package with day trips:

  1. Arrival Venabu Fjellshotell. Dinner and tour briefing.
  2. Walking in Venabygdsfjellet. Transfer to Rondablikk.
  3. 10 kilometres, approximately four hours. Easy day trip from Rondablikk to Rondane SPA.
  4. 20 kilometres, six to seven hours. Longer day trip to Rondvassbu, with spectacular views of the Rondane Massif. Easy terrain.
  5. 15 kilometres, approximately five hours. Longer day trip from Rondane SPA, via Peer Gynt Hut to Høvringen.
  6. 20 kilometres, approximately six hours. Walking to the top of Formokampen, 1,427 metres above sea level.
  7. 10-20 kilometres, four to six hours. Walking tour in the area, different possibilities. Easy walking.
  8. Departure. Transport to nearest railway or back to the starting point (for those who have own car).

Difference in altitude: 900 – 1,000 metres above sea level. Day 5 from 1,000 – 1,427 metres above sea level.

How to get there: Train from Oslo Airport Gardermoen to Vinstra, taxi/hotel car to Rondablikk. A total of four hours.

Rambling on the Pilgrims' Trail/Dovrefjell National Park

A rambling tour in one of Norway's most spectacular mountain areas, and one where many important historical events have taken place. The Pilgrims' Trail over Dovrefjell has served as a travel artery since the Middle Ages and is the oldest connection between Oslo and Trondheim. The tour is literally a walk through Norwegian history, combined with spectacular scenery. The tour passes through easy and varied high mountain terrain. Dovrefjell is also famous for its rich flora and fauna, not least the famous musk ox.

Tour package with day trips:

  1. Arrival Toftemo Turiststasjon, Dovre.
  2. 18 kilometres, five to six hours. Day trip from Toftemo via Fokstugu to Furuhaugli. During the tour you visit a heritage-listed farm with buildings dating back to the 1400s.
  3. 15 kilometres, approximately five hours. Day trip from Furuhaugli to Hjerkinn. Relatively high mountain terrain with no major climbs uphill.
  4. 15 kilometres, approximately five hours. Day trip from Hjerkinn to Kongsvold.  Upward climb from Hjerkinn to the tour's highest point Hjerkinnhø, 1,288 metres above sea level, with a magnificent view of Snøhetta Mountain and Rondane National Park.
  5. 10 kilometres, four to five hours.  Musk-ox safari with certified Musk-ox-guide.
  6. Departure.

Altitude difference: 800 – 1,000 metres. Day four, highest point 1,288 metres above sea level.

Tour suggestions in the Kingdom of Peer Gynt

In the centre of the Gudbrandsdalen Valley, north of Lillehammer, you will find the "Kingdom of Ibsen's legendary Norse folk hero Peer Gynt". "In the footsteps of Peer Gynt, our popular mountain route from hotel to hotel, starts at Skeikampen and ends in the valley of Espedalen, about 67 kilometres as the crow flies. The various day trips offers great views to three national parks: Jotunheimen, Rondane and Dovrefjell. 

Tour package with day trips:

  1. Arrival at Skeikampen for dinner. Trip briefing.
  2. 18 kilometres, six to seven hours. Walk from Skeikampen to Fagerhøi. The walk follows an old country road. If the weather is nice, we climb up to Præstkampen, 1,244 metres above sea level, to enjoy a panorama of the Jotunheimen and Rondane mountains.
  3. 16 kilometres, four to five hours. Walking from Fagerhøi to Gålå. Easy terrain, through birch woodland. At Lauvåsen you will be served Norwegian porridge for lunch. 
  4. 15 kilometres, five to six hours. Walking from Gålå to Fefor. The route passes the Solbraa Mountain Museum, which shows how locals survived in the mountains more than a century back in time. Then you climb up to Valsfjell and continue down to Feforvatnet Lake.
  5. 18 kilometres, six to seven hours. Walking from Fefor to the valley of Espedalen. The day starts with a challenging climb, the path taking us up more than 1,500 metres above sea level and providing a  magnificent view of the Jotunheimen, Rondane and Dovrefjell mountain ranges.  Easy walk down to Espedalen.
  6. Departure. Transport by car/bus to the starting point Skeikampen. We visit Hell along the way. Hell has the deepest geological potholes in Northern Europe, 60 metres deep and 30 metres wide.
