Indulgences

In this instalment, Nick Owen lists his favourite ways of indulging yourself whilst on holiday in Norway.

1 Luxury among nature

Stay at the new Juvet Landscape Hotel, near Alstad and immediately feel at one with nature – wood and glass mini houses have been carefully integrated into the landscape.

2 The best of the "bad"

Bad is good in Norway – it means spa. Pamper yourself at the  luxurious Solstrand Hotel & Bad, just 20 miles south of Bergen. It has been in the Schau-Larsen family for four generations.

3 Fresh and delicious

Norway’s legendary seafood doesn’t get better than at the renowned Cornelius Restaurant on its own tiny island off Bjorøy, near Bergen. The food and views are idyllic!

4 Golden gastronomy

The Jægtvolden Fjordhotell, just north of Trondheim is an oasis of indulgence with its own marina and fantastic cuisine. Stunning fjord views make this a unique experience in itself.

5 Grace and flavour

Excellent cuisine and a gracious setting make the Hovde Gård hotel, just an hour from Trondheim a real treat. Pamper yourself shamelessly!

6 Experience total calm

The enchanting islands of Utsira and Røvær are only a boat rip away from Haugesund, but it feels like travelling back in time. Feel calmness all around and listen to the silence.

7 Extreme exclusivity

Get away from it all by staying in a lighthouse. Chose either the Svinøy, 12 miles off Ålesund or the Molja, on Ålesund’s sea wall – both feature on the Unusual Hotels of the World website

8 The art of pampering

The bath house and spa at Angvik Old Trading Post has everything you need for the ultimate relaxing experience in a haven of calm. With only 17 rooms – you’ll want to stay forever.

9 Height of excellence

The views over Bergen and surrounding islands from the Fløyen Folk Restaurant at the summit of Mount Fløyen are simply breathtaking. The menu is pretty breathtaking too!

10 Life's a beach

Escape to a haven of tranquillity and beauty among the sand dunes at the Sola Strand Hotel, close to Stavanger. Swim, surf or just unwind. Perfect.
