Fishing in Trøndelag

Trøndelag is a great destination for anglers, whether you want to go fishing along the coast or in one of several top salmon rivers.

The coast of Trøndelag is a place where authentic traditions and untouched nature coexist side by side with the modern world. Deep-sea fishing is particularly famous along the coast of Trøndelag due to the extraordinary good fishing conditions. From the islands of Hitra and Frøya in the south, via the Fosen peninsula, up to the Namdal coastline and Leka in the north, the thousands of islands and varied coastal scenery make for a landscape that is both wild and charming. With its mix of archipelago, sheltered fjords and easy access to the open ocean, Trøndelag offers ideal conditions for all anglers, regardless of their skill and experience and the kind of challenges they seek.

Fishing has always played an important role for the coastal population of Trøndelag. Even today there are many vibrant fishing villages that retain their unique character and traditions.

In Trøndelag you will also find many rivers and thousands of lakes that offer high quality freshwater fishing experiences. Whether you want to explore one of Trøndelag's nine national parks areas, or simply take advantage of the nearest fishing opportunity, the region is good for inland fishing. Many of Norway’s best salmon rivers such as Namsen, Orkla and Gaula are situated in Central Norway and Trøndelag is one of the world’s best regions for salmon fishing. Even in Trondheim you can fish salmon in the river Nidelva running through the city center.
