What to do in Ål

Ål has many activities for you to enjoy. Try for example cross-country skiing during winter or cycling in the summer.

Hiking

Paths and mountain trails crisscross the valleys and mountains in all directions in Ål. Most trails are old hiking and cattle routes.

Cycling

With its range of forest and mountain paths the area around Ål is perfect for wonderful cycling trips. Down in the valley, cycle routes go alongside the river Hallingdalselva and are well separated from the traffic on the rv. 7.

Fishing

Ål has many good fishing waters. You can also fish in the rivers Hallingdalselva, Votna and Lya. Most places to fish are easily accessible and your journey will often take you through some stunning natural scenery.

Riding

A riding excursion through the mountains of Ål is a special and peaceful experience. In Ål, riding excursions can be arranged by the hour, day, weekend or week. Skilled mountain guides and experienced horses.

Below, are some of the activities and attractions included in the Adventure Card:

  • Vassfaret Bear Park in Flå. At the bear park you can get close to bears, elks and roe deer.
  • E.K.T. Langedrag Nature Park at Nesbyen. At Langedrag you can experience different kinds of animals, for example wolves, lynx, Arctic foxes, elks, horses and goats.
  • Hardangervidda Nature Centre in Øvre Eidfjord, Hardanger. Three floors of striking exhibitions of the plants and animals of the Hardangervidda Mountain Plateau.
  • The Viking camp at Gudvangen. Practice archery, meet a "true" Viking and row an authentic Viking ship.

Cross-country skiing enthusiasts have 400 kilometres of groomed trails to choose from.

At Ål Ski Centre you will find a nice family area and various slopes.

Why not try one of Norway’s longest sledging hills at Skarslia ski- og akesenter or try snowkiting in the Bergsjø area?
