Strolling the cobbled streets of the Old Town, occasionally discovering the ideal curiosity in one of the small shops, is a great way to spend an afternoon. And maybe trying on a gown at Kong Frederiks Damer, hunting down a book at Fredrikstad Antikvariat or nibbling a delicacy at Lille Special. But not everything is old in the Old Town. There are also modern furnishing shops selling designer furniture and lighting.

Perhaps the expansive city centre is your kind of place, with its shopping centres and pedestrian precincts. The public square by the footbridge is the venue for a wide range of events throughout the summer. In autumn local farmers bring their produce to market here.

The relaxed pedestrian precincts have a selection of specialist shops. The shopping centre Torvbyen in the heart of Fredrikstad has parking for 200 cars. Fredrikstad's bus station is part of the same building complex.
