Direct flights to Stavanger with Norwegian

Stavanger in Fjord Norway is easily accessible from the UK with direct Norwegian flights from Gatwick. Prices from £34,90* one way, taxes included.

Stavanger is a town with great culture and stunning nature. Explore this small metropolis, with numerous festivals and cultural offers. It was the European Capital of Culture in 2008.

The brand new concert hall opened this autumn. Rumour has it that the new concert hall has the best acoustics in Europe. Check out what is on online

Take a stroll in Old Stavanger, with its narrow streets and wooden houses. If you want to go back in time and get a feel for what Stavanger was like in its heyday as a great exporter of canned fish, visit the Norwegian Canning Museum located in Old Stavanger.

You can also enjoy a walk on the kilometres of beaches just outside the town. Do not miss the breathtaking panorama from the famous Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen) or enjoy the view looking up at the extraordinary rock formation from one of the fjord cruises available year around.

The Norwegian Petroleum Museum tells the story of the development of the oil industry in the North Sea – the building’s stunning architecture is a draw in itself.

Stavanger is surrounded by the sea and some of the best farmland in Norway, and the local restaurants are very focused on local produce in their cuisine. Indeed Stavanger, which is home to the Culinary Institute of Norway, is regarded by many as the food capital of Norway.

What to do around Stavanger

The Lysefjord
The Lysefjord is situated between towering cliffs and mountains, with the majestic Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen) being its most famous feature. The Lysefjord is within easy reach of Stavanger, with daily boat trips throughout the year. Lysefjord cruises are offered by Rødne Fjord Cruise and Norled.

Skiing
In winter you are just a short boat trip away from Sauda. The ski boat departs from Stavanger city centre. More information is available online.

The Jæren Beaches (Jærbeaches)
Klepp boasts the longest sandy beaches in Norway, 11 kilometres in all, and long stretches of sand dunes with their own special flora and fauna. The beach areas of Jæren are classified as a conservation area, and segments are plant and wildlife conservation reserves. The following beaches are signposted: Ogna, Brusand, Nærland and Refsnes (Hå), Orre and Bore (Klepp), Hellestø, Byberg, Vigdel, Ølberg and Solastranden (Sola), Viste and Sande (Randaberg).

The beaches are perfect for hiking or jogging in autumn and winter. Some of Norway's best surfing also awaits along the beaches of Jæren. This stretch of coastline is great to explore the North Sea for wind and waves, with spots ranging from easy and gentle beginner beaches to more demanding boulder rock points.

Viking Settlement and Nordvegen History Centre, Avaldsnes
Visit the Avaldsnes Settlement and the Nordvergen History Centre, where you can walk in King Harald Fairhair’s footsteps and learn about the fascinating history of the Norwegian Viking. Here you can visit the burial mounds, the standing stones and a reconstructed Viking Farm. Open all year.

Nordvegen History Centre is one of Norway’s most important areas within national history. For years chieftains and kings controlled the strait Karmsundet – Nordvegen – the shipping lane that gave Norway its name.  At the centre you can learn about the sovereigns that controlled the coast of Norway from Avaldsnes.
