FjordKysten is a popular destination for fishing and it is easy to understand why. Here you are surrounded by the open sea and the fjords in one of Norway's most beautiful archipelagos, and the conditions are perfect for deep-sea fishing. You can also try freshwater fishing in one of the inland lakes or rivers - the municipalities of Flora and Fjaler have several good spots for freshwater fishing.
All year.
Cod, saithe, pollock, tusk, ling and crabs can be caught year around. If you go deep enough you can also catch halibut and monkfish. Freshwater species include trout, salmon and char.
Fishing has always been important for the communities along FjordKysten. Here you will find traditional fishing villages and islands where fishing still is the main income for local people. Join local fishermen on guided tours, and they will show you the best fishing spots. You can rent fishermen's cabins customised for fishing holidays right by the sea. These offer boat and equipment rental and facilities for preserving and storing your catch. Most are suitable for families, individuals and friends travelling together.
In addition to fishermen's cabins FjordKysten also offers accommodation in holiday houses, cabins, apartments and hotels. The following places have customised offers for fishing holidays. All have facilities for preserving and storing fish:
Every year, on the third Friday in June, the world's longest herring table (350 metre long) is set up in Florø town centre. Here you can eat all the herring you want, for free. Try herring prepared the traditional way, or sample special recipes such as banana herring, sour cream herring or fruit herring. In 2013 the herring table takes place on 21 June.
By car FjordKysten is 230 kilometres from Bergen, 515 kilometres from Oslo and 220 kilometres from Ålesund.
Express boats leave twice a day from Bergen (once Saturdays and Sundays) and have several stops in the region. Hurtigruten stops in Florø.
The airline Widerøe has direct flights to Florø from Bergen and Oslo. DAT have direct flight to Florø from Stavanger.
